How to use the GroupWise “Junk Mail Handling” feature to block Spam
 
Handling Unwanted Mail
Use the Junk Mail Handling option in the GroupWise Windows client to handle unwanted Internet e-mail that is sent to your GroupWise e-mail address. 
Internet e-mail includes all e-mail where the sender’s address is in the
Junk Mail Handling does not apply to internal e-mail. Internal e-mail is e-mail from senders within the Campus GroupWise system.

To enable Junk Mail Handling options

From the GroupWise client, click on Tools then click Junk Mail Handling. 
From the Settings tab you can select to: 
  • Enable Junk List 
  • Enable Junk Mail using the personal address book 
  • Automatically delete mail in your junk folder after a certain number of days
  • Enable Block List 
Restart the client after making any changes.
 
You have two options for handling unwanted Internet e-mail
You can select to either Block or Junk e-mail items.
You can block or junk by specific e-mail addresses or by domain.
(Domain is the part of the email address to the right of the @ sign.
For example “yahoo.com”.)

Note: Selecting to block or junk by domain will block or junk all email from 
          that domain. Only select to block or junk by domain if you are certain 
          you do not need to receive e-mails from other e-mail addresses in that 
         domain. 

Junk

All e-mail items from addresses and Internet domains that are junked through Junk Mail Handling are placed in the Junk Mail folder. The items will remain in the Junk Mail Folder for 14 days by default before being automatically deleted.

Block

All e-mail items from addresses and Internet domains that are blocked will not 
be delivered to your Mailbox.

Note: When blocking e-mail addresses or domains be aware that those 
           messages that are blocked will be permanently deleted 
           and will not be recoverable.

Blocking or Junking E-Mail From a User

1 Right click an item, then click Junk Mail.
2 Click Junk Sender.
   or
   Click Block Sender.
3 Depending on your selection in step 2, select Junk E-Mail From This 
   Address or Block E-Mail From This Address.
4 Click OK to save.

Blocking or Junking E-Mail From an Internet Domain

1 Right click an item, then click Junk Mail. 
2 Click Junk Sender.
   Or
   Click Block Sender.
3 Depending on your selection in step 2, select Junk Any E-Mail From This 
   Internet Domain or Block Any E-Mail from this Internet Domain.
4 Click OK to save.


 

Junk  Mail using the personal address book 
Enabling this feature will block all internet e-mail except from addresses in your Frequent Contacts address book and any personal address books.
1 Click Tools and select Junk Mail Handling.
2 Check the option to Enable Junk Mail using the personal address book.
3 Click OK save.
Trust List
Add e-mail addresses to your trust list to prevent them from every being junked or blocked.
1 Click Tools and select Junk Mail Handling.
2 Click the Trust List tab.
3 Click New and type in the email address.
4 Click OK to save the OK to exit.
